Remote Desktop for Linux
Availability and Installation
FastX 2 is available on all Ubuntu 16.04 computers. It is not installed as default software, but anyone who has a University-owned Ubuntu 16.04 desktop computer in their office can request to have FastX 2 installed by contacting CSE-IT staff, firstname.lastname@example.org. Please include the name of your computer in your request email.
In the School of Mathematics, FastX 2 is installed on the Ubuntu 16.04 computers in the Vincent Hall 270D lab.
To connect to a computer with FastX 2 installed, you may use any browser on any operating system. In your preferred browser, go to https://[computer name]:3389, where [computer name] is the name of a computer with FastX 2 installed. For example, if you're trying to connect to math-vh270d-7.math.umn.edu, you would open a web browser and type https://math-vh270d-7.math.umn.edu:3389 into the address bar. If you're connecting from off-campus, you'll need to first be connected to the University VPN General Access Pool for FastX 2 connections to work.
